Re-home Your Tortoise

Re-home your tortoise responsibly to ensure it finds a safe, loving environment. Our program connects your tortoise with caring adopters, prioritizing its well-being, proper care, and long-term habitat stability.

Work Process

How it Works

Report a lost or found tortoise using the form below. We’ll generate a flyer and share it with the community to help increase visibility. Together, we can quickly reunite tortoises with their rightful owners and support responsible conservation efforts.

Generate Flyer

Create an adoption flyer with your tortoise’s information.Make sure to
add some details about their age, sex, and personality! Download, print, and share itwith your community to let others know you are looking to rehome your tortoise.

Share and Connect

Share the flyer with neighbors, local groups, and online platforms
to maximize visibility. Spreading the word increases the chances of quickly finding placement for your tortoise.

Get Creative

Find innovative ways to highlight your tortoise to attract potential
adopters. Utilize various online platforms and adoption websites. Join social media groups. Create an adoption video for social media.

Register Tortoise

Once an adopter is found, ensure that your tortoise is registered to
the new family by completing a new RLAP form. Tortoises can be rehomed from one family to another as long as the new adopters register the tortoise to ensure legal custody.

Why Rehoming Matters

Tortoise Group no longer accepts pet tortoises from the general public. If you are in need of rehoming your tortoise, please follow the steps listed above to find a potential adopter for your tortoise. Tortoise Group will try to honor rehoming requests from current Tortoise Group members and members of the Golden Tortoise Society. Please keep in mind that there are over 150,000 pet desert tortoises in Clark County alone, and over 3,000 pets are displaced each year. Due to the overwhelming number of displaced tortoises, we are unable to meet the demand of the increasing captive desert tortoise population.
